Each voice is inherent in the fight to raise awareness for every child battling a congenital heart defect in the state of Kentucky, across the country, and around the world.  At Kerrington’s Heart, we encourage families to share their experiences and their journeys to shine a light on CHD Awareness.

Reaching out to your representatives to tell your story and ensure your voice is heard is an integral part of affecting policies that directly affect our heart warriors.

Join Kerrington’s Heart Advocates as we ask for:

  1. Funding for Research – Despite being the leading cause of birth defect related deaths in addition to being the number one (1) birth defect, research for congenital heart defects is grossly underfunded.  Please ensure that funding for heart disease, stroke, and congenital heart disease-related public health research and surveillance initiatives at the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention receive the appropriate level of attention in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

  2. Work Requirement for Medicaid – Children battling a congenital heart defect often rely on their parents to provide around the clock care.  This often forces their parents to be unable to work conventional jobs. Please ensure that parents who are necessitated to forgo out of the home work in order to care for their medically fragile children at no fault of their own are not at risk of losing life-saving coverage.
