Family Heart Camp

  • The Center for Courageous Kids (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Kerrington's Heart has partnered with The Center for Courageous Kids to create a family weekend retreat just for Kentucky CHD families! We feel that camp is such an important yet fun experience for children, but we also understand that a lot of CHD children would not get to experience camp for numerous reasons.......so we have tried to eliminate 3 of the main reasons!

1. This camp is one of the best medical based camp facilities located in Simpsonville, KY
2. This retreat is for the FAMILY.....meaning mom's you don't have to leave your babies!
3. This retreat is no charge to you!!

For all interested, this camp is open to 30 Kentucky CHD families and will require an application process that is done through the Center for Courageous Kids! All CHD children must be 5 years of age or older. Please follow the link below for more information and a look at what this awesome camp offers for our children!

Mom's Connect Meeting

  • 3060 Harrodsburg Road Lexington, KY, 40503 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

During our March Mom's Connect meeting, our event speaker, Jessica Turner, RN and Program Coordinator will bring her wealth of knowledge and guidance on the Transition Education Program.

Transition education is recognized as a necessary educational and therapeutic process to support the ongoing health of teens, beginning around 15 years old. Because your child has a CHD it is especially important that they learn about their health and how to manage it themselves.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) requires lifelong follow-up to prevent complications such as arrhythmias, heart failure, infection, stroke and premature death. The goal is to move them from a dependent role in their healthcare, to one of independence and self-care, according to their level of ability.

Dinner will be served! All information is in the link below. RSVP is appreciated so we can better plan dinner.

Moms' Virtual Coffee Meetup

KHI Virtual Coffee Meetup.png

As a mom to a CHD child, we know that this journey can be a difficult one.  We also know it is SO important to find your tribe, one that extends grace, love, and forgiveness, accepting, even when views are not the same, someone that understands all the feelings and struggles that go along with CHD.  We have the best tribe of CHD moms at every walk of the journey.

We hope you will join us for our NEW Moms' Virtual Coffee Meetups.  These meetups are a very informal but fun time of togetherness, done via Zoom twice a month.  We will have them 2 weeks apart with one being in the morning and the other in the afternoon to appeal to everyone's schedule.  We hope you will join us during this time of fellowship with one another.  This will replace our Moms Connect Meeting until we are able to meet again.

All meeting info will be emailed the day before the event!

During this difficult period of social distancing, many parents are looking for ways to keep the kids entertained while they're at home.  Once a week we will have Kerrington's Heart Story Hour which will feature the favorite books of CHD families.  Each week we will have a different CHD family member reading their favorite book to you.  Afterwards we will open the Zoom call up for some interaction for the kids to get to know one another through fun activities.

Ashley, CHD mom to Rex, will be reading Jeremiah the CHD Aware Bear and Friends by Phillip Wolf.
